The Nine Stones form a small prehistoric circle in a wooded glade near Winterbourne Abbas, with unevenly sized standing stones arranged around a space only about eight metres across. The monument dates from around 4,000 years ago; two larger stones distinguish one side of the ring, while the others sit much lower in the ground. Its compact scale makes this a brief visit, but the surviving circle offers a close encounter with Dorset's prehistoric landscape. Reviewers enjoy the stones and repeatedly recommend approaching through the field rather than trying to stop beside the busy A35. The official permissive path starts at the village's western edge and follows the field boundary for 450 metres. The Coach House Inn allows visitor parking, except during busy Sunday lunchtimes. Keep dogs on leads because cattle may be grazing.
