Longshaw, Burbage and the Eastern Moors cover about 1,600 acres of the Peak District between Sheffield and Hathersage, where the ancient oak woodland of Padley Gorge, Burbage Brook and heather moorland run up to the gritstone of White Edge, Froggatt and Curbar. Longshaw Lodge, built for the Duke of Rutland as a shooting lodge in the 1820s, remains a private residence, while the old quarry at Bole Hill supplied stone for Derbyshire dams and Carl Wark hillfort looks across to Mam Tor. Red deer, northern hairy wood ants and pied flycatchers live here. Three waymarked walks start from the cafe and dogs are welcome on short leads. Reviewers praise the Longshaw Cafe and the Book Den bookshop, and children like the ducks, streams and climbable trees. Tips from regulars: Woodcroft car park fills early at weekends, payment is card or app only with patchy signal, so download JustPark first, and members must register on every visit.
