Moseley Old Hall

Moseley Old Hall is an Elizabethan farmhouse near Wolverhampton where King Charles II hid in a secret hole after his defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651, one of the most dramatic episodes of the English Civil War. The house still contains the bed in which the fugitive king slept and the priest hole where he concealed himself from Parliamentarian soldiers. The knot garden has been recreated in 17th-century style with box hedges, gravel paths and period plants that would have been familiar to the king during his desperate flight.
