White Ladies Priory preserves the roofless church of a small community of Augustinian canonesses, whose pale habits gave the nunnery its name. The late twelfth-century ruins sit in a rural setting near Boscobel House, and became part of Charles II's escape story after his defeat at Worcester in 1651. He briefly hid here before moving on, disguised as a woodsman with soot on his face. Surviving arches and stonework reward a closer look, while English Heritage's downloadable audio guide helps put the fragmentary buildings into context. Visitors enjoy the quiet setting but stress how little roadside parking there is. The official directions recommend using Boscobel's parking when open and following its permissive footpath to the priory.
