Parke is a riverside estate on the edge of Bovey Tracey, the gateway town to Dartmoor, once the home of a wealthy local family with fruit and vegetable gardens, orchard, fish pond and grazing meadows. The walled garden still grows fruit, vegetables and cut flowers within a mixed orchard, and paths drop through ancient woodland to the River Bovey and the medieval weir. The town is a mile's walk away, and dogs get an off-lead play area between the old railway line and the river. Reviewers praise walks to suit all abilities and the cool river with its small beaches, and dog walkers rate it highly. Tips from visitors: the car park is small and unsuitable for large vehicles, and the hill down to the Home Farm Cafe (not National Trust) and the river is steep. Flood damage has affected paths around the river, so follow the signs on site; the Tramper is not currently available.
