Richborough Roman Fort traces Britain's Roman story from the invasion of AD 43 to the final centuries of imperial rule. Substantial fort walls and deep defensive ditches surround the remains of a settlement that once stood beside a busy coastal entry point. Climb the reconstructed Claudian gateway for an overview, then explore the museum's excavated objects and hands-on activities explaining trade and daily life. An audio tour and children's trail help connect the scattered remains. Reviewers particularly appreciate the museum, surviving walls and interpretation, and recommend footwear suited to grass and uneven ground. A short walk crosses the public road to the amphitheatre, which survives as an earthwork over buried remains. The gateway has steep ladder-like steps, while reinforced grass paths serve parts of the main site. Dogs on leads are welcome outdoors, but avoid the amphitheatre field with a dog when livestock is present.
Off-peak days are £0.90 cheaper for an adult.
