St Anthony Head is the tip of the Roseland peninsula, guarding the eastern entrance to the Carrick Roads and Falmouth harbour, fortified from Napoleonic times to the Second World War. The Trust cares for the coast defence battery built between 1895 and 1897 and decommissioned in 1956, with an observation post mirroring the one at Pendennis Castle across the water. A footpath drops to a bird hide over a small cove, and the lighthouse's former paraffin store hosts artists in residence. St Anthony's Lighthouse, built in 1835 and still run by Trinity House, is closed to visitors. Level tarmac paths lead from the car park to a viewpoint; the paths down to the hide and lookout are steep. Reviewers call it a good starting point for circular walks on the South West Coast Path and note that members park free. The main toilets are shut because of low water pressure, and pay and display takes only coins, so set up the JustPark app first. Dogs are welcome under close control.
Advance notice: all toilets will close for winter from 3 November 2026. The main visitor toilets are currently closed due to very low water pressure. We're working hard to resolve this. The disabled toilet remains open.
