Trelissick occupies its own peninsula above the Fal estuary near Truro, with 376 acres of garden, park and woodland given to the National Trust by Ida Copeland in 1955 and the house following decades later. The mild Carrick Roads climate suits the tender planting the Copelands built up from the 1930s: rhododendrons and camellias in spring, hydrangeas in late summer, tree ferns and a National Collection of photinia, with views down the river towards Falmouth. Beyond the garden the estate is dog-friendly, with parkland and woodland paths dropping to the shoreline, a small beach on the river and the walk out to Roundwood Quay, while the King Harry Ferry crosses beside the estate. Reviewers rate the courtyard cafe, the children's activities and the easy parking, and say spring is the season for the flowers. One tip from visitors: only the ground floor of the house opens and several rooms serve as a second cafe, so treat this as a garden and estate day rather than a country-house tour.

Parking and entry free for National Trust members. Parking at Trelissick The car park at Trelissick is pay and display. National Trust members can park for free by scanning their membership card at a machine to obtain and then display a ticket in your vehicle, or by registering their National Trust membership card on the JustPark app. For non-members parking is £6 per day. You can pay by cash at a car park machine, via the JustPark app or at visitor reception. 4 miles (6.4km), easy, 1 hour 20 minutes to 2 hours, eight stages, on footpaths and gravel pathways through woodland, with a zig-zag climb back up to the road on the return. Starts at Trelissick car park, grid ref SW835396, past the cattle grid into the parkland; parking on site is free to National Trust members. Toilets in the car park; dog bins at the start and halfway round.
