Pendennis Castle occupies the headland above Falmouth, where Henry VIII built a fortress to defend the coast. The Tudor keep, later gun positions and Royal Artillery Barracks show how the site adapted through centuries of warfare, including the two world wars. Visitors can explore the defensive buildings, look out across the harbour and find out about the soldiers who served here. Families have an explorers trail and a small soft-play area, with broad lawns for a picnic between the buildings. Reviewers repeatedly praise the sea views, helpful staff and castle cafe, and dog-owning visitors appreciate being able to explore together. Dogs on leads are permitted inside the buildings and around the grounds. Allow time for the spread-out site and the climb within the keep. Use the signed visitor car park on Castle Drive; accessible parking and a drop-off point are closer to the entrance.

Keep Connections is a conservation project in development. The access page says the barracks ground-floor exhibition remains closed while facilities describes it as open; confirm current access directly.

Open daily 10am-5pm until 24 October, then 10am-4pm from 25 October to 1 November; weekends 10am-4pm from 2 November to 20 December. Christmas dates vary.

Last admission is normally one hour before closing. Check the date-specific calendar and any notices before travelling.

EH members enter free with their membership card. National Trust membership alone does not cover admission. Advance booking is optional for ordinary visits and can save up to 15%; events may differ.

The keep has steps and spiral stairs. The access page lists wheelchair access to the barracks ground floor but says its exhibition remains closed, conflicting with the facilities description; confirm current exhibitions before visiting. Drop-off at the castle gates is available.
