The National Trust accessibility text says 'parking on the street, no parking nearby'. The tower is a street-front building on Town Walls, close to the town centre near the Welsh Bridge, so use Shrewsbury's town centre car parks (not National Trust) and walk.
The map pin is the tower itself (the Trust's pin and the Google listing share it), which reverse-geocodes to 22 Town Walls, SY1 1TH; the Trust's stated postcode is SY1 1TN.
Town Walls Tower is the last surviving watchtower on Shrewsbury's medieval town walls, the defences Henry III ordered in the 1220s to guard the town against attack from Wales. The 14th-century stone tower stands on Town Walls, the street that follows the southern line of the old wall near the Welsh Bridge, squeezed between neighbouring houses that are not National Trust property. The Trust, which runs it from Attingham Park, has conserved the tower and turned it into a one-bedroom holiday cottage with a kitchen and dining room, so it opens to the public only on a few pre-booked, timed tour days each year. Inside are small rooms with low ceilings, very narrow windows and steep, twisting stairs between the floors. Reviewers call it a small but interesting half-hour, praise the knowledgeable guides and mention a little garden and a passport stamp. One tip from visitors: check the tour dates before travelling, because the door is locked outside them, and there is no parking nearby, only on-street spaces.
Town Walls Tower is managed as a holiday let for most of the year and opens to the public only for pre-booked, timed tours on selected days. The Trust's calendar to December 2027 shows the tower open 10:00 to 16:00 on 14 to 17 November 2026, 11 to 13 March 2027 and 11 to 13 November 2027, and closed on every other day.
Tours are 20-minute timed slots booked in advance through the 'Book a visit' link on the Trust's page (the Town Walls Tower Tour 2026 event, 14 to 17 November 2026, 10:00 to 10:20 and 63 other times). National Trust members tour free but still book; non-members pay when booking.
Small rooms, low ceilings, access via steps and steep stairs throughout. A Town Walls Tower access statement is linked from the Trust's page. No facilities are listed on the page.
