Langley Chapel

Langley Chapel stands in a field near Acton Burnell, a modest sandstone building whose unusually complete furnishings reveal how worship changed after the Reformation. Its origins lie in a chapel authorised for the Burnell family in 1313, while the interior largely preserves an early 17th-century arrangement of wooden seats, a reading desk and a musicians' pew. Look for the differences between the family box pews and the simpler seating behind them, as well as the small bell tower above the roof. Reviewers value the quiet setting and the sense of stepping into an undisturbed village church. Parking beside the field gate is very limited, and only one of the chapel's two doors is unlocked; English Heritage warns that it is heavy.
