Wroxeter was once the fourth largest city in Roman Britain, and its surviving bath-house walls give an immediate sense of the scale of the settlement beneath the surrounding fields. Around the excavated civic centre, the audio guide explains how bathing, trading and social life fitted together, while finds in the museum reveal more everyday details of food, medicine and shopping. A raised platform helps you read the layout before exploring at ground level. Across a small road, a reconstructed Roman town house, built for the television series Rome Wasn't Built in a Day, makes a useful comparison with the foundations outside. Families often praise the games and interactive displays, and visitors find the volunteers helpful in bringing the remains into focus. Bring a picnic, as there is a drinks machine but no full cafe, and expect uneven gravel and cobbles. Dogs must stay on leads and cannot enter the museum.
