Eskdale and the Duddon Valley are neighbouring valleys in the western Lake District, both celebrated for their unspoilt beauty and relative quietness. Eskdale is home to the narrow-gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway and the remains of a Roman bathhouse at Hardknott Fort. The Duddon Valley was a favourite of Wordsworth, who wrote a sequence of sonnets about the River Duddon.
