Ravenglass Roman Bath House preserves unusually tall remains of the bathing building outside a fort established during Hadrian's reign. Its walls rise to almost four metres, while traces of the fort's defences survive nearby. The garrison guarded a useful coastal harbour and the road leading inland through the Lake District, with evidence linking some soldiers to naval service. The surviving masonry gives a stronger sense of the building's original scale than the low foundations found at many Roman sites. Reviewers recommend reading the interpretation board to imagine how the rooms fitted together, and treating this as a short historic stop within a visit to Ravenglass. Ordinary access is for exterior viewing. Park in the village's charged public car park and follow the signs on foot; refreshments and other facilities are in the village.
