Pentire is the largely undeveloped headland north of Polzeath, lived on since around 4000BC and now farmed by the Trust for wildflowers and birds. Iron Age ramparts survive at the Rumps, once a settlement, and the scars of silver-lead mining mark the headland. From Pentire Point the views run across Padstow Bay, and grey seals and peregrine falcons are often seen along the coast path. Pentireglaze Haven, a sandy cove with rock pools at low tide, is about 20 minutes' walk from the main car park, which has Pentyr Cafe, known for pasties and cream teas, a sensory orchard with a nest swing and a Changing Places toilet. Reviewers rate the cafe and clean toilets, and advise sturdy boots for the coast path climbs. A Tramper can be booked for accessible routes over the headland. Dogs are welcome under close control, including in the cafe barn, but are kept off Pentireglaze Haven by day in summer.
The headland is free for everyone. Parking charges apply to non-members.
