Plas yn Rhiw is a small 17th-century manor house with Georgian additions on the Llyn Peninsula, looking down over Hell's Mouth bay towards Cardigan Bay. Home for centuries to the Lewis family, it was bought in a state of neglect in 1938 by the three Keating sisters, who restored it and passed it to the National Trust in 1952 on condition that the wild bees in its roof were cared for. The house is closed for the whole of 2026 for conservation work after a reroofing finished in 2024, so the visit is the garden: box-hedged beds and grass paths, an orchard and a flower-rich meadow, with woodland paths dropping to the coast path. Reviewers love the terraced planting, the benches placed for the view and the family-run tea-room, not National Trust, whose courtyard welcomes dogs on leads. Reviewers note the main car park is a steep 250-metre walk below reception, with accessible spaces by the entrance, and that an hour covers the site unless you stay for lunch.
