St Agnes Head rises high above the Atlantic in the shadow of St Agnes Beacon, a quiet clifftop of heather and gorse with a busier past. It served as a rifle range in the Napoleonic wars, and in the Second World War trainee gunners fired Bofors guns here, leaving foundations of ammunition stores and gun emplacements; Mesolithic flint tools have been found beyond the car park boulders. Walk past the National Coastwatch lookout, watch for choughs over the cliffs, or climb the Beacon for views over Chapel Porth, Wheal Coates and Trevaunance Cove. The headland is one of Cornwall's Dark Sky Discovery Sites, with room to stargaze from the car park. Reviewers love the sweeping coastal views and the choice of walks. Tips from visitors: there are no facilities beyond the car park, and a height barrier on the approach keeps out larger vehicles. Dogs are welcome all year on a short lead. Three Trust trails start from the main car park.
The headland is open dawn to dusk.
There are no toilets or refreshments at the headland; seasonal toilets and a cafe (not National Trust) are at Chapel Porth, reached on foot along the coast path.
Fairly level access close to the car park; narrow and uneven paths along the coast path beyond. Take care near cliff edges.
The headland is free for everyone.
No charge for anyone.
The Trust's car parks at St Agnes Head lie at the end of the track off Beacon Drive; the walks start from the main (second) car park. The Trust's St Agnes Head circular walk page says the car park is free to everyone.
The approach is restricted to vehicles under 2.3m. Satnav TR5 0NU reaches the general area; follow Beacon Drive round and look for the National Trust sign at the end of the track (what3words ///relocated.stir.awoken).
