About
Thetford Warren Lodge is a small fortified building probably raised around 1400 by the Prior of Thetford. It protected gamekeepers and hunting parties from armed poachers, and later served the warreners who managed rabbits across this landscape. The surviving stone structure makes an unusual contrast with the surrounding woodland, offering a glimpse of an industry that once helped shape the local countryside. The interior is closed, although visitors can look through the grille in the doorway. Reviewers recommend approaching the car park slowly because the dirt track is rough and potholed, and arriving early when spaces may fill. From the parking area, the official access follows a short dirt track to the lodge. There are no toilets or refreshments here, so plan those separately. Dogs on leads are welcome around the exterior.
