Isleham Priory Church is a small Norman building that survived largely intact because it later became a barn. Probably founded around 1100 by Count Alan of Brittany, the priory belonged to the Benedictine abbey of St Jacut-sur-Mer, but its monks moved to Linton in 1254. The chalk-rubble church retains its nave, chancel and rounded apse, with original windows and arches helping reveal its religious purpose despite the later cart doorway. Reviewers appreciate the quiet interior and useful information boards, and recommend allowing time to collect and return the key. English Heritage's named key holder is a five-minute walk away on West Street. A raised timber threshold makes entry difficult for some wheelchair users, and the uneven floor includes a step between nave and chancel. Only assistance dogs are admitted. There are no facilities in the chapel, but village shops and pubs are nearby.
