Tyntesfield is the Victorian Gothic Revival house that William Gibbs built near Wraxall on a fortune made importing Peruvian guano, and it came to the National Trust in 2002 after a public appeal, complete with virtually all of its contents. The chapel, modelled on the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, is the showpiece, and the family's furniture, stained glass and everyday possessions survive room by room. Outside are terraced gardens, a large walled kitchen garden with glasshouses, an arboretum, a small farm and 540 acres of parkland with three colour-coded walks, plus play areas and a big second-hand bookshop with a children's reading corner. Dogs on short leads are welcome across nearly all of the estate, including a dog-friendly section of the Cow Barn cafe. Reviewers praise the knowledgeable room volunteers, the wildflower meadows full of bees and butterflies, and the bodgers working green wood in the courtyard. Tips from visitors: the house is about a kilometre from the car park on paths with slopes and loose gravel, so ask about the volunteer-run mobility shuttle if that is a problem, allow at least three hours, and leave the house through the chapel.

Prices, non-members
Parking: Parking is £3.00 in winter months (November to March) and £5 in summer months (April to October) per vehicle, per day. This car park uses the JustPark app and payment machines for member check-in and non-member payments. You’ll be asked to add payment details; National Trust members will not be charged for parking. The JustPark code for this location is 80698. Each admission, membership, and even every coffee purchased, helps the National Trust to look after this special place. To help families enjoy days out for less this summer, the Government has introduced a temporary reduction in VAT, running from 25 June to 1 September 2026. This means the admission price you pay at the till may be less than advertised. Please speak to a member of the Welcome Team when you arrive if you have any queries.

Passes through ancient woodland and a hay field. Nearest stations are Nailsea and Backwell, 4 miles away, and Bristol Temple Meads, 7.4 miles away.

Circular route from Tyntesfield, Wraxall, Bristol, North Somerset, BS48 1NX, past a monkey puzzle avenue, a summerhouse, the Watercatch and Second World War remains, then down into a wooded combe and back along the main drive. Uneven and muddy in places with steep, rocky ground; walking boots recommended.
