Cerne Giant

The Cerne Giant is a 55-metre-tall figure of a naked man wielding a club, cut into the chalk hillside above the village of Cerne Abbas. Recent scientific analysis has dated the figure to the late Saxon period, around the 10th century, though its precise origins and meaning remain debated. The figure is best viewed from a designated viewpoint on the opposite hill, and the surrounding chalk downland is rich in wildflowers and butterflies.
