About
Corbridge Roman Town preserves the streets of a civilian settlement that served the frontier, with excavated granaries and buildings showing how life extended beyond the nearby military forts. Its most memorable feature is the original Roman high street, where you can follow the same worn surfaces used by inhabitants centuries ago. Start in the museum to see the Corbridge Hoard and everyday objects that make the foundations outside easier to understand, then use the audio guide to follow the town's story at your own pace. Visitors appreciate the combination of close-up artefacts and ruins they can explore, rather than simply view from a distance. Bring a picnic if you want a longer stop; refreshments are limited to the visitor facilities. The museum and much of the site are accessible, but the loose, uneven stones of the high street are unsuitable for wheelchairs. Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds only.
