Planetrees Roman Wall - Hadrian's Wall

Planetrees Roman Wall preserves only about 35 metres of Hadrian's frontier, but it records a revealing change in the Roman building programme. The narrower wall rests on foundations laid for a broader structure, showing how the construction plan was altered after work had already started. Look along the surviving courses and base to understand the change from ten to eight Roman feet rather than judging this stop by its length alone. Visitors enjoy the combination of readable archaeology and open countryside, and some mention cattle in the surrounding fields. The official Chesters Roman Trail includes Planetrees among the area's smaller frontier remains. English Heritage directs drivers to the car park at Chesters Roman Fort, around thirty to forty minutes away on foot; the fort itself is a separate paid attraction.
