The Jewel Tower is a rare surviving part of the medieval Palace of Westminster, a small building whose uses trace several chapters of government history. Originally a royal wardrobe, it later housed the House of Lords' records and then the National Weights and Measures Office, where standards for Britain and its empire were determined. Displays across three floors explain those changes, alongside digital reconstructions of the palace before the fire of 1834. Look for the Anglo-Saxon Palace of Westminster Sword, Norman stone capitals and the historic weights and measures. Visitors praise the knowledgeable staff and the manageable scale of the exhibitions, while the ground-floor cafe offers a place to pause near Parliament. The shop and cafe have wheelchair access, but the upper exhibitions require a steep, narrow spiral staircase. Assistance dogs are welcome; pet dogs are not admitted.
