Penrhosfeilw Standing Stones, Meini Hirion Penrhosfeilw, also written Penrhos Feilw, are a pair of Bronze Age standing stones shrouded in mystery, two tall slabs about 10 feet high and 11 feet apart on a saddle of open farmland on Holy Island, south-west of Holyhead. Very little is known about their origins. One persistent myth says they were once part of a larger stone circle and that a cist or grave containing bones, arrowheads and spearheads was found between them, but no evidence has ever emerged to substantiate the story. The Wales Coast Path's Holyhead and mountain circular walk makes a short detour from Plas Road to see them. Reviewers love the sweeping views to Holyhead Mountain and the Irish Sea, and find the short grass walk through a kissing gate behind a farmhouse on a signed permissive path. Tips from visitors: the lane is narrow with roadside room for one or two cars, so pull in considerately and be respectful of the house.

Terrain level 3, moderate: an exposed field that may be slippery or muddy, reached through a kissing gate, with grazing animals possible on the neighbouring farmland; do not climb the stones. No facilities. Drones are not permitted.

Free.
