Sutton House

Sutton House is a rare Tudor red-brick house in Hackney, the oldest domestic building in East London, built in 1535 for Sir Ralph Sadleir, a courtier of Henry VIII. Behind its Georgian facade lie original Tudor rooms including linenfold panelling, carved fireplaces and a painted Jacobean staircase. The Breaker's Yard, added later, offers a contrast with its contemporary art exhibitions and community spaces. The house has been everything from a girls' school to a squat during its varied history.
