The Courts Garden

The Courts Garden in the village of Holt is an English country garden of great charm and variety, designed around a mid-18th-century house originally used as the village's court and cloth-weaving centre. The garden blends formal and naturalistic styles with herbaceous borders, topiary, a lily pond, an arboretum and a kitchen garden. Unusual plants thrive in sheltered corners, and the garden is particularly striking in summer when the borders reach their peak. The garden was developed from the 1920s by Major T.C.E. Goff and later Lady Cecilie Goff.
