Most English Heritage sites are open-access: stone circles, hill forts, abbey ruins and castle walls you can walk into with no ticket and no membership. Every place page says whether entry is free, member-only or paid, with the current prices and opening times for the rest.

An English Heritage membership also opens places cared for by Cadw, Historic Scotland, OPW Heritage Ireland and Manx National Heritage. Trust Quest lists them in the same passport book and says on each page whether your card gets you in free or at half price.

Frequently asked questions

How many English Heritage sites are listed on Trust Quest?

Trust Quest currently lists 359 English Heritage sites, from Stonehenge and Dover Castle to Roman forts, abbeys, stone circles and historic houses across England. Open the English Heritage map to explore them all.

Is there a checklist of all English Heritage sites?

Yes. Trust Quest works as a free English Heritage checklist: tick off each site as you visit, watch your progress grow in your own English Heritage passport book, and earn awards as you go.

Which English Heritage sites are free to visit?

264 of the 359 English Heritage sites listed are free to everyone, with no ticket or membership needed: stone circles, hill forts, abbey ruins and castles cared for as open-access sites. Each place page says whether entry is free, member-only or paid.

Does an English Heritage membership work in Wales, Scotland or the Isle of Man?

Yes, at places cared for by Cadw, Historic Scotland, OPW Heritage Ireland and Manx National Heritage. Some are free to English Heritage members from day one; Cadw and Historic Scotland give half price in your first year and free entry after your first renewal. Trust Quest lists these places alongside English Heritage's own and states the terms on each page.

Is Trust Quest free to use?

Yes, Trust Quest is completely free. Your checklist is saved on your device; sign in to keep it across devices, plan trips, and leave reviews and tips for other visitors.

Does Trust Quest include English Heritage locations?

Yes. Trust Quest lists nearly every English Heritage site you can visit, with opening times, prices and a passport of its own. A handful are not listed: sites that are closed, open only for guided tours, or where members pay for entry. The places an English Heritage card opens beyond England, from Cadw, Historic Scotland and Manx National Heritage, are in the same passport book, each with its own progress if you choose.

Why can’t I find an English Heritage location?

A few English Heritage sites are deliberately left out: places that are closed, open only for guided tours, or where members pay for entry. If a place you can visit is missing, tell us through the support page, and check the official English Heritage website for visitor information in the meantime.

Is Trust Quest affiliated with English Heritage?

No. Trust Quest is an independent, fan-made guide for planning and tracking your visits. We are not affiliated with English Heritage or the National Trust. For tickets and membership, visit the official English Heritage website.
