Borrowdale is one of the most beautiful valleys in the Lake District, stretching from the shores of Derwent Water southward into dramatic mountain scenery. The Trust owns much of the valley including ancient oak woodland at Johnny Wood and the famous Bowder Stone, a 2,000-tonne boulder balanced on one edge. The area offers walks of all levels from gentle lakeside strolls to high fell routes.
